Hey folks! Sorry . . . it’s been FOREVER and more since my last blog post. I know, it’s like a broken record of me saying this, but I wish I just had more time and dicipline to keep up with this blog! I’ve been wanting to add blog entries from the past 6 months about New Years Resolutions, from my trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, and all about my crazy skydiving adventure . . . so maybe if I finally get my butt moving on these, I can update my blog soon. Stay tuned . . .
MEANWHILE—- BIG TRAVEL NEWS ON THE HORIZON!
In one month I will be in PERU!!! And guess what?—I’m traveling solo this time. Yikes, I know, sounds a bit intimidating. But I haven’t traveled on my own in awhile, and I’m kind of craving in life right now that amazing, independant feeling of adventure, fear, and excitement of traveling alone, doing things on your own, and really putting yourself out there and meeting new people from all over the world . . . so PERU, here I come!! I’m super excited about this trip for many reasons:
1. Lately I feel like my life —with work, freelance, and social—has been GO GO GO GO GO!!! I’ve been feeling the GREAT need to completely remove myself from everything going on around here and jetting off SOMEWHERE FAR, FAR AWAY!
2. Traveling alone. Scary, I know. And the more I read about the crazy vaccinations I’m going to have to get before this trip, the four-day hiking and camping trip I’ll be participating in, and seeing photos of the jungle lodge I’ll be staying in the Amazon jungle (which, by the way, is in the middle of nowhere and is supposed to take 2-3 hours to get to BY MOTORIZED CANOE!!), it’s quite intimidating. But for any of you who have ever traveled alone . . . man, you really can’t describe the incredible feeling and joy you get from the whole experience. I am SO excited to be off on this adventure solo, and the excitement I remember of meeting so many other locals and travelers along the way!
3. I will be hiking to—and visiting–one of the “Seven Wonders of the World”—Machu Picchu. For those of you who haven’t heard of Machu Picchu, it’s often referred to as the “Lost City of the Incas” and is perhaps the most familar icon of the Inca World. The Incas were an ancient people who lived in South America during the 12th century, and were a group that controlled a larger territory than any other South American cultural group had ever controlled. Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti around 1400. Just looking at photos of this wonder, I can hardly contain my excitement of the feeling that I know will run through my entire body to be able to experience such an amazing place in person. And the fact that I will be hiking for THREE DAYS (almost four) and camping out in the wilderness to get there will be quite an experience, and quite a reward when we finally reach Machu Picchu!
4. I will be visiting and staying in a lodge in the middle of the Amazon jungle. Apparently, from what I’ve read and photos I’ve seen, this lodge is completely in the middle of “nowhere”, 2-3 hours by motorized canoe from the closest town! The rooms are completely open to the jungle outside, and your beds are covered in mosquito netting to protect you from creepy critters (hopefully!)
I will be off on my crazy Peruvian adventure the beginning of September for about two and a half weeks. I’m DEFINITELY going to have to pack lightly, do my research, and BE PREPARED, because for all the outdoor activities and crazy adventures planned for this trip, I have a feeling I’m going to be in for a LOT more than I’m anticipating!
Either way, it’s DEFINITELY going to be quite an ADVENTURE!!! 🙂
